We had 18 members attending. We welcomed District Governor Jon Bilson, ADG Bruno and Tracy, Rotaractors Josh and Emma as well as prospective new members Robyn and Dave. President Kaye Kaye welcomed members and guests. Kaye announced the following decisions from last week’s Board Meeting: - $1 000 to go to Share the Dignity
- $2 500 to go to My Home
- $2 400 to go to Say No to Meth
Emma Looking at packing for Share the Dignity on Saturday 19 December – before the Christmas party. Venue to be finalised. Donations of handbags are needed. Paul G Our movie is this Sunday. So far only 7 tickets have been sold to members – we need more! Every ticket sold will pay for the polio vaccination of 30 children. DG Jon gave the centurions their pins. District Governor Jon Bilson Jon’s presentation was in two parts. The first presented us with some Key Messages and the second was an interactive session using Zeetings. Key Messages - COVID has been very disruptive to Rotary generally this year. We have had to adapt.
- RI theme for this year – Rotary Opens Opportunities
- Need to continue what we started and finally eradicate Polio. Only in 2 countries now.
- Continue to build relationship with youth, including Rotaract.
- Move close to District 9465.
- Engage our members – Experience + Energy = Engagement. Not engaging members leads to loss of members.
- Improve/increase our public image. Do people really know what Rotary does?
- Emphasis on Leadership Development and succession planning across clubs and District.
- Digital roll out – eg Zoom. Prior to COVID most of us hadn’t heard of Zoom.
- R100 – coming up to the centenary of Rotary in Australia. Looking at events and celebrations at club and District level. Can check out the website:
- 2021 is a combined District Conference at Optus Stadium. So far looking great.
- So – let’s make Rotary great again – Jon needs our help. Rotary has been at ~ 1.2 million members for years, but Australian numbers are declining. How do we arrest this? Up to us!
Jon then ran an interactive session on the Zeetings platform. It was a wonderful activity using our phones. Maybe something we can do occasionally. Kaye thanked Jon for a terrific presentation. Jonathan Jonathan gave an update on the Cans for Christmas. Coles and Woollies are on board, but not sure about Aldi at this stage. Next Meeting (Change of Day) Our next meeting is Wednesday 25 November at the Lesmurdie Club. The day has been changed so that representatives from the City of Kalamunda can come and present to us on the planned Stirk Park upgrade. |
