Notes from the 14th of April
  • We had 16 members join us on Zoom for another great meeting.
  • Brian thanked members who had dropped off gear for Foodbank. Vicki will do a drop off on this coming week.  They particularly need baked beans, breakfast cereal, canned spaghetti, flour, pasta, rice, tinned fruit, tinned soup, tinned tuna, tinned vegetables and UHT milk.  They don't accept items in glass, or opened/damaged goods or food past its use by date.
  • Kaye updated us on the Anglicare appeal.  We have started the crowdfunding appeal.
  • Emma Wignell from Rotaract has offered to help with any shopping that members may need done.
  • Australian Rotary Health is trying to raise $200,000 by the end of June to go towards mental health issues which will come from the social distancing due to COVID-19 which will impact on some people.
  • Good news - the National Youth Science Forum 2021 is expected to go ahead. Applications are open now, and will close on 14 June.
  • The City of Kalamunda's draft Local Housing Strategy is out for public comment.
  • Thank you to Paul for putting in the Bulletin just what Rotary clubs around  the world are doing.  Paul has a great idea for our club which he will share next meeting.
  • Following the meeting, Greg, Franziska and Brian discussed Changeover. We decided on 11 July.  We may have to do it via Zoom, but we will book the Kalamunda Hotel again in the hope that by going later we may be over some of the gathering restrictions.

Madeline Stewart - 2nd year

From our 2nd year Scholarship Awardee:

My name is Madeleine Stewart and I am in my second year studying the Bachelor of Philosophy at the Australian National University. Studying at ANU has been a fantastic experience for me so far; I have encountered many opportunities for which I am very grateful. Throughout my first year, I studied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science and Astrophysics. Studying at the ANU would not be possible for me without the aid of scholarships, so I am very thankful to the Rotary Club for their generosity.  (click on below 'read more' to read more from Madeline)

It's our founder's, Paul Harris' birthday

Now here is a little bit of trivia, just for a change... and a reason for you to perhaps make a small personal contribution to our Foundation in honor of Paul's birthday..............give the gift that keeps on giving!

2nd Recipe Of The Week
I did have a craving for milk-rice for a few weeks now, so when I stumbled across the following recipe, I had to cook/bake this, because for me this ticked all the boxes...
I like my cakes not to sweet, and this one is a bit tangy because of the raspberries - so absolutely perfect. And at the moment it is sitting in the fridge and each time I walk past it, I have a thin sliver....
So... if you want to treat yourself this week I recommend
Easter Tarte with Milk Rice and Raspberries
This recipe will take about 20min to prepare and about 1h 5min to cook/bake - after that it will need 1hr to rest.
