Notes from the 21st of January
  • Greg welcomed members to a different structured meeting where members mingled while having their platters. He said that each month there will be
    • a Committee Meeting with feedback to members
    • A sit down meal with speaker and
    • Rotary issues meeting.
  • Bushfire Appeal   Bill Hardman proposed the Club donate $10,000. This was passed at the meeting and will be ratified by the Board.
  • International Swiss Night was a great success. Weather, food and venue awesome.  Profit was $500.
  • Franziska invited members to Open House at Falls Road for Australia Day. BYO drinks and food.
  • Youth Service
    • 4 Awards to be presented to Darling Range Sports College students in February.
    • Naomi Nichols sent a thank you letter to the Club following her nomination by Lesmurdie SHS for the Science Scholarship.
    • Josh Crisp form Rotaract will be sponsored by Club to attend the Rotaract Conference in Queensland.
  • Chinese New Year Banquet.  $65 at Foo Wah Seafood Chinese Restaurant on Sat 1st Feb, Willeton. Places now full. 
  • International
    • $5000 to Entregeba Timor Leste
    • $5000 to go towards installing water on Timor Leste as a RAWCS project

Climate Change
It was with great pleasure that we welcomed John Walters as our Guest Speaker for the start up night. 
John is an Engineering Science Adviser to major Oil and Gas companies advising ways in which they can reduce emissions. He is a passionate advocate on this issue.
The talk started with the Science prospective on Climate Change and its impacts.

The “Earthrise” photo was taken by Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders on December 24, 1968, in orbit around the Moon. It was the first image of the Earth as it appeared from deep space, and demonstrates the fragility, size, and finite nature of the planet.
