Talitha Houston
Birds of the Perth Hills
Talitha was raised in Gidgiganup and first used a camera at age of 5. Her enthusiasm and obsession with taking photos of birds grew and resulted in upgrading to a digital camera at age of 13., followed by another underwater camera at 15, and now she is also using a drone. She is now more interested in taking films rather than photos.
She started her book at 14 and finished two years later. It was printed on recycled paper and  now over 5000 copies have been sold with 10% going to Kanyana and other wildlife charities.
She gave hints on how to take best photos of birds eg in the morning or late afternoon when its feeding time and where to find local birds eg fence lines, flowering trees, bird baths etc
She identified birds which are timid, flyaway, skittish etc and suggested we learn to recognise bird calls . There is an App  Birds of Australia which has the different bird calls, helpful in recognising what you are actually seeing.
An interesting fact: Why is Australia so special regarding the different bird species?   Because it is an Island Continent and has the highest % of songbirds since its breakaway from the Gondwanaland land mass millions of years ago.
Members bought  her books (she only had 10) and ordered extra.
