Happy News Members were invited to share their "happy news" for the past week. Stories included grandchildren visits, a trip to Canberra to visit family and friends. Most notable was the return of a handbag and its contents to a past stallholder who had been involved in a serious car accident after one of the markets. Australian Rotary Health Jonathan and PDG Dee attended a dinner held by Australian Rotary Health which included several indigenous health as well as research scholars. The scholars were at different stages of their studies and they briefly talked on their progress and experiences to date. Lucy, the indigenous health scholar that Rotary Kalamunda sponsors was present. She promised to make a date to come and speak with us. Directors Reports International - The Microfinancing project in Bali is in progress. President Dan had discussions with Kirsten Shearn. Youth - No applicants for the recent RYLA training course.President Dan and Krys Kerr to visit KSHS to improve our relationship. - Krys Kerr to contact Darling Range Sports College re mock interviews for VET students. - Brian Simpson will be sending out info re the Encouragement Awards. - There is an issue with one of last year's recipients where the school has not received the $200. Needs to be resolved ASAP. Membership - Kaye is now posting on FB once per week. Jonathan requested the same posts be loaded onto our website. - Information is required for the Lembongan and Entrega Ba projects for the new website. - The Echo newspaper was contacted and attended our Partner's night. An article in the Echo was published this week about our 60th Birthday along with a photo and a cartoon! It was suggested the reporter be acknowledged in some way - perhaps a Pride of Workmanship Award. - An invitation was extended for 3 members to attend the next Chamber of Commerce meeting which will have a speed dating format. The idea is for business people to engage each other and tell them as much about their business within the time allocation. PDG Dee, President Dan and Jonathan will attend. Community - Kaye is organising a flyer for the fundraiser High Tea event scheduled for October 15th at the Kalamunda Hotel. All proceeds will go to Foodbank WA. - The Christmas in July event was cancelled due to a lack of numbers. - Hands on assistance at the Kanyana Wildlife Centre is being organised. Numbers might be limited to the number that Kanyana can manage. Treasurer - Our membership numbers at RDU are incorrect and need to be updated ASAP. Other Business - One of our past Arts scholarship students Briony Bray, has accepted the role of curator at the Zig Zag Gallery. Krys Kerr to contact her and obtain a short resume re her support from Rotary Kalamunda and how this has helped to obtain this post. - PDG Dee spoke about the Jennifer Jones Imagination Challenge designed to increase membership within the Club. Only 5 clubs per District would be accepted into the program which requires 70% approval by members. PDG Dee indicated she would put our name forward subject to the Club's approval. - PDG Dee also spoke about the need for Mental First Aid training. Several members agreed this was a good idea. - Jonathan wrote an article for RDU about our Cans4Christmas collections. Hopefully it will get published!
