Sheryl and Vanessa provided us with a great update on our flagship fundraiser the Artisan Markets.
Sheryl was focusing on what is happening operationally while Vanessa gave us an insight on the overhauled website.
Operations
- Stallholders
- We have regular stallholders and casual; many have been coming for a long time, the feedback Sheryl is getting particularly from new stallholders is our market is such a nice place to be the people are nice the Rotarians are always helpful. We need new stallholders to add interest and variety but need to keep the balance with regular stallholders as they are the bread and butter. Some may only come once and realise it is not for them; recent times, some of our new stallholders that sell quality products are finding each market better and better.
- Terms & Conditions
- We updated the Terms and Conditions last October, and they are due for a review very soon, they need to be kept up to date to change at different times. All stallholders that apply must tick that they have read the T & C's before they can submit their application. Our T & C's are very clear about not entering into correspondence with stallholders that are moved stall space and or not given space for future markets. This is an important clause if these decisions are made, it is a decision not taken lightly, and it is discussed with the relevant people.
- The T&Cs are on the website. We suggest Rotarians might like to familiarise themselves with them. A copy is kept at the market
- Application Process
- Anyone wishing to attend our market must first fill in a Registration of Eligibility, Sheryl views these, we ask people wishing to submit a ROE several questions. Once approved, they are given log-in details to apply for each month when applications open.
- Stallholder placements
- Once stallholders have paid their invoice, they are guaranteed a place at the market they have paid for, Regulars pay two months in advance; once this is done, Sheryl can offer places. We will be re-evaluating stallholder classifications soon.
- Price Increase
- Price increase at the end of the year.
- The last price increase we had was 2017 when Sheryl took over; this was a $10.00 increase. However, those on a small site did not have an increase. With the developments we have done over the last few years, Website, Facebook, etc we will be looking at a price increase in the next 6 months or next year. Other top markets often charge a one-off $30.00 fee for administration purposes; this is something we will look at soon. Especially with the ongoing development of our Website/Facebook/Instagram.
- Not for profit spaces
- 1 – 2 spaces available January – October every year.
- Application process: Usually not-for-profit email Sheryl and she works out a with them when they can come or when we might have a space available.
- Volunteer information
- We are working towards creating an updated description of jobs for volunteers at the markets
Kalamunda Central
- Commitment from centre management
- As most of you know, we have had the use of the old Homestyle building since November 2017; this has been great for our market. The lower section of the building has been leased to a local person who will be doing Art classes, workshops. This will fit in nicely with our market, Sheryl has spoken to the new owner who will not be asking us to move stalls, she is more than happy having them against the windows. In the meantime, we have use of the top section on a two-month basis. August and September at this stage. At the moment, there is no interest that Sheryl is aware of in that section.
- Number of stalls available in the space
- On average we have 12-13 stalls on this side of the building. This month we have increased it to 15, a few have dropped out, Sheryl is re-jigging the layout so we will see how that works, this month and will look again for September. Sheryl has found places for most that were in the lower section throughout the market.
