Reports

Dee

Dee reported on a successful day tree planting with Quaraiding Rotary Club.  The club has been planting trees for 20 years and this year focused on tree planting in bushfire affected areas.  Seven other clubs were represented and Dee encouraged our club to become involved in future years.

Dee has had contact with Darren Pedersen who runs mental first aid training through the Perth Hills Health Alliance.  Darren has offered to run a free course for the club.  The course will run over two sessions of 5-6 hours each.  An Expression of Interest form was circulated to members.

Kaye

Chamber of Commerce - Kaye attended the 'speed dating' meeting with Dee and Jonathan.  Interest was expressed by several CoC members to become involved wth Rotary.  Kaye suggested that club members should go once a month to CoC sundowner.  Possible opportunities for joint ventures.

Kanyana - a day has been scheduled for an opportunity to help Kanyana with various jobs on 17 September commencing at 8pm for approximately 2-3 hours.  Please register your interest with Kaye.

Dan

Future of Rotaract Club - a meeting was held with Rotaract to look at ways we can engage with Rotaract and also help them with issues regarding membership.

Callum outlined some of the issues facing Rotaract with members getting older and commitments changing re work and family.  Need to recruit younger members.  The club has a board but no Directors at present.  They meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Sunday at 5.00pm.  Meetings generally run for two hours.  The first meeting tends to be workshopping and business, and the second is more of a social gathering.  A few of our club members expressed their interest in this model.

Rotaract are keen to be more connected with Rotary and perhaps work on projects of mutual interest.  It was suggested that we look into working with indigenous groups with the commmunity along with Rotaract.   Kristen Shearn may be able to help us  with this highlighting areas of need within the indigenous community.

Strategic Plan

Dan briefly discussed the plan which was created in 2017.  Print outs of the plan were posted around the meeting venue and members were invited to highlight areas of interest to them, focussing on the future direction of the club and what we need to happen going forward.  Members suggestions to be collated for further discussion.

Jonathan

Jonathan highlighted upcoming Partners Nights on 23 August from 6.30-8.30pm and passed on information to Matt and Callum extending an invitation to Rotaract.

Jonathan also reminded members of World Hat Day in October and Cans for Christmas.

Club Satisfaction Survey

A hard copy was circulated to the members for further discussion at a separate meeting.

Members comments as follows:

Kaye:  Reduce meetings to two a month.  Favours Rotaract model.

Helen:  Reduce cost of membership currently nearly $400 per annum.  Investigate where money goes to International and Rotary Foundation.

Bill:  Expressed concern re opening meeting with Welcome to Country.  Feels club is following an unnecessary trend and it is tokenistic and paternalistic.

Dee;  Imagination Challenge and Community Grants

Dan:  Agile Planning

Robyn:  New members, particularly new to area, are unaware of needs in the community.

Kym:   Club is very dependent on Market as principal fundraiser.  Perhaps look at additional forms of fundraising to get all members involved and possibly attract new members who see us out in the community.

Meeting closed at 8.15pm
