- We had 16 participants, including Damien Leach who joined us from Adelaide. Our meetings have followed a normal Rotary format with Franziska opening Zoom at 6.00 and us able to have a chat before the meeting starts at 6.30.
- Brian again thanked members for supporting the Foodbank appeal. This continues to go well, and there is a full box again this week.
- We shared our ANZAC Day observances. Many were at the end of their driveways. Robin suggested that more of us should have a flagpole and fly the Australian flag.
- Franziska mentioned that there is no District Assembly, but that all training courses could be done online. All incoming office bearers should complete them.
- Paul's Quiz question was: In the Rotary calendar, what is the significance of the week April 24 - 30? Answer: It is World Immunisation Week, promoting the fact that vaccines work. The winner was Tania.
- The COVID Safe app was mentioned. A good idea to help us as we move into the easing up of restrictions.
- Committees were discussed. Now that we can have groups of 10 meeting, we can have committee meetings in member's homes. We will also be looking at a Board Meeting via Zoom, as well as the joint Board Meeting around the time of changeover.
- Damien shared some of what his club is doing. He knew Franziska from his time at the Midland club. He is at Campbelltown club in SA now. Their main fundraiser is second hand shed sales which bring in around $90 000 per year. Their main projects are local. Youth is a big focus for them. They sponsor an Indigenous Health Scholarship through Australian Rotary Health. They also have an International project in Fiji where they are putting in separate toilets for girls. It was great having Damien on board, and it really shows a very positive part of having online meetings - we are limited only by our imaginations in who we can have as guest speakers.
- Robin shared that in the last RDU magazine there was an article on a rotary Club in Sydney who does 30 minutes a week on a community radio station. Given that these stations are often looking to source content, there could be an opening for us here in Kalamunda.
- Dee suggested that we may like to do something special when the markets recommence. Maybe the lifting the lid hat day could be a good idea. Sounds great!!
- Tania will do a Who am I at the next meeting.
We are looking at how we might come out the other side of all the restrictions. We need to be steady, steady to avoid a second wave of infections, but we can be very pleased with our results to date. At the time of writing (Sunday afternoon,) WA has had 4 consecutive days of zero new cases. There have only been 2 cases in the last week which is terrific.
